Private maternity care throughout your pregnancy
At Grosvenor Gardens Healthcare, our obstetric care is led by Dr Berrin Tezcan and a team of highly experienced and trained clinicians. You’ll have access to specialist advice, pregnancy monitoring and support with planning for birth.
A key benefit of private obstetric care is continuity. Building an ongoing relationship with your consultant can help them understand your medical history, how your pregnancy is progressing and what matters to you, so your care can feel more personal and joined up.
Our obstetric service welcomes self-funded, insured and international patients. You can choose comprehensive maternity or delivery-only care and discuss the level of support you need with our team.
A private setting for your maternity care and delivery
Your antenatal appointments can take place at our Belgravia or Dulwich clinic, giving you the choice of central or south London for your care throughout pregnancy.
Delivery takes place at The Portland Hospital in central London, the UK’s only fully private maternity hospital. Its dedicated maternity setting includes fully equipped delivery rooms with en-suite bathrooms, with private en-suite rooms available after birth so you can recover in a comfortable, welcoming environment with your baby.
Your maternity care at Grosvenor Gardens Healthcare
Your obstetric care can change as your pregnancy progresses. From early appointments to planning for birth, your obstetric team will monitor your health and your baby’s development, explain your options and recommend any additional care you may need.
Early pregnancy care
Your obstetrician can review your medical history, discuss any early pregnancy concerns and recommend scans or tests where appropriate.
Antenatal care
Throughout pregnancy, your obstetrician will monitor your health and your baby’s development. This may include pregnancy checks, ultrasound scans, blood tests and prenatal screening, as well as monitoring for conditions such as gestational diabetes and pre-eclampsia.
Regular monitoring can help identify concerns early and give you greater peace of mind as your pregnancy progresses.
Birth planning
Your private obstetrician will work with you to create a birth plan that reflects your preferences, while taking your health and pregnancy into account. They’ll explain the delivery options that may be suitable for you and review your plan as your pregnancy progresses, so it can adapt if your needs or choices change.
Delivery
Your delivery can be planned around your individual needs and preferences, including vaginal birth or caesarean birth. Delivery takes place at The Portland Hospital in central London, with specialist maternity facilities and private rooms available after birth.
You can choose delivery as part of comprehensive maternity care or opt for delivery-only support if you don’t want a full pregnancy package.
Care after birth
Your obstetric care can continue after your baby is born, with a dedicated postnatal check to review your recovery and discuss any concerns following pregnancy or delivery.

Pregnancy scans and prenatal testing
Pregnancy scans and tests can form an important part of your obstetric care. Your consultant can recommend the checks that may be appropriate at different points in your pregnancy, explain the results and discuss any additional monitoring you may need.
You can also book many of our private pregnancy scans separately if you’re not receiving full maternity care with us.
Early pregnancy scan
An early scan can help your obstetric team check where your pregnancy is developing and assess its early progress.
Nuchal translucency scan
This first-trimester screening scan measures the fluid at the back of your baby’s neck and can form part of screening for certain chromosome conditions.
Anomaly scan
This detailed mid-pregnancy ultrasound checks your baby’s development. Your obstetric team can talk you through the findings and any further care that may be recommended.
Cervical scan
A cervical scan measures the length of your cervix and may be recommended if your obstetrician feels closer monitoring could be helpful during your pregnancy.
Wellbeing scan
Later in pregnancy, a wellbeing scan can help assess your baby’s growth and development as part of your ongoing maternity care.
We also offer non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT), a blood test that screens for the chance of certain chromosome conditions. Your consultant can explain the available screening options and help you understand what the results mean.
Pregnancy advice and information
Pregnancy can bring new symptoms and questions at different points. Our patient guides give you trusted information on common pregnancy concerns and topics you may want to understand in more detail.

What to expect at your private obstetrician appointments
Your appointments are a chance to check how you and your baby are doing, ask questions and discuss any concerns. Your care will be shaped around your pregnancy, with clear explanations at each stage.
Your first consultation
Your first appointment gives you time to discuss your medical history, how your pregnancy has been progressing and any preferences or concerns you’d like to raise. Your obstetrician will explain any scans or tests they recommend and what happens next.
Regular antenatal appointments
At follow-up appointments, your obstetrician will monitor your wellbeing and your baby’s development. This may include pregnancy checks, ultrasound scans or other tests depending on your stage of pregnancy and individual needs.
Support when you need it
If you develop a concern such as bleeding or a scan or test shows something that needs closer review, same-day appointments are available.
Clear explanations throughout
Your obstetrician will explain your care, results and any decisions that need to be made, so you understand your options as your pregnancy progresses.
Ongoing access and support
If you’re receiving care through our maternity package, you’ll have direct access to Dr Tezcan between appointments, giving you a way to ask questions or raise concerns as they come up.

Private obstetrician services in London FAQs
What qualifications should I look for in a consultant obstetrician London?
Choose a consultant obstetrician on the GMC Specialist Register, ideally with RCOG Fellowship and training in fetal medicine or genetics.
How much does private maternity care cost with a private obstetrician london?
Costs vary. Our maternity packages are clearly outlined, and we support both self-pay and insured patients. We will confirm all fees upfront.
What's the difference between NHS and private obstetrician care?
Private care offers continuity with one obstetrician. You also benefit from flexible appointments and longer consultations. NHS care is excellent, but less personalised.

Most obstetrician consultants work in hospitals for safety. You should discuss your options early if you are considering a home birth.
How early should I book with a private obstetrician London?
Ideally, by 6–8 weeks, so your obstetrician can organise early scans and tailored care.
What emergency support is available through private maternity care in London?
We provide same-day appointments, hospital referrals, and direct access to your consultant obstetrician when needed.
Can I switch from NHS to a private obstetrician during pregnancy?
Yes. You can transfer to a Grosvenor Gardens private obstetrician at any stage. We’ll help make the switch smooth and easy.
